Meet Your Captain

Captain Dale Belanger has been on Maine waters since his father let him solo the families 15’ fishing boat powered by a 1957 10 horse Johnson on Webb Lake in the western mountains of Maine. A native of Maine, and a resident of Portland since graduating from the University of Southern Maine, Portland is home but Casco Bay is where the heart is. Capt Dale holds his Master 100 Ton US Coast Guard license and is a certified diver. When not chartering Lost Shaker of Salt II, he is one of the Captain’s on the Casablanca, an 85’ custom cruising boat in Portland Harbor. Lost Shaker of Salt II is his fourth boat and the first to be offered to the public as a private charter service. Being well known in Casco Bay, expect Capt Dale and Lost Shaker to have frequent visitors by local lobster boat captains and other boaters as you cruise around the scenic bay. Don’t be bashful asking the Captain questions just don’t necessarily believe all that you hear, but definitely all that you see.
In case you have not noticed, the Captain is a huge Jimmy Buffet fan so expect plenty of Parrothead music onboard and don’t ask to book a charter when Buffet is in town. Capt Dale will be in Margaritaville. Welcome aboard!

Casco Bay, is a very extensive area between Cape Small and Cape Elizabeth, a distance of 17.8 miles. Between these two capes the bay extends up into the land an average distance of about 12 miles. The number of islands in Casco Bay is 136, and many are fertile and under cultivation; and nearly all are inhabited. Nearly every large island extends northeast and southwest, which is the general course of the bay and of all rivers and coves contained within its limits.
Portland Harbor, at the western end of Casco Bay, is the most important port on the coast of Maine. The ice-free harbor offers secure anchorage to deep-draft vessels in all weather. There is considerable domestic and foreign commerce in petroleum products, wood pulp, paper, seafood products, and general cargo. It is also the Atlantic terminus of pipeline shipments of petroleum products to Canada. The outer harbor comprises the area westward of Cushing, Peaks, House, and Great and Little Diamond Islands from the entrance at Portland Head to the entrance of Fore River at Fish Point, including the three deepwater general anchorages and the oil discharging berth westward of Spring Point. |
